Originally posted by flexmoreI was going to castle short but on reflection, White Qg3 and Ng4 look very powerful, so I would castle long and then 18 ...Nd3 to get after the White Knight, hopefully exchange it and then the Rook.
i see 17 ... 0-0 as a much more agressive option, also worth discussing ... our king gives our weakest pawns strength ... i would play it against an opponent 400 rating points below me ... but much like a drunk at midnight outside the pub swinging blindly.
I think the rook might be a decoy.. its not in a great posistion at the moment and is unprotected. but could easily move to somwhere better .. like the center. both whites queen & knight are nicely centralized.
The light sqaure bishop exchange could of been advoided.. this allowed white to bring his queen into play.. I think it was bad move for black to place bishop on H7 .. it allowed white to force a exchange to bring the queen into play.
The H5 pawn will come be very handy for white in end game..

In the present and future, the White rook is fine where it is at the moment - it ties down the Black knight while allowing White's Queen and knight to bring pressure on g7.

F7 would of been a better posistion for the light square bishop.. and would of allowed a centre pawn to come into play.
Currently the rook is on an inefficient sqaure.. I thnk white placed it there to support the dark sqaure bishop.. now I bet you white wishes it was somewhere else.. we will have to wait and see...

No. But I do miss your point.
my point is rooks arnt the best pieces to place on the flanks..
Theres only 2 reason I can think of for whites advanced G5 pawn
1. White was intending to use it as a H pawn battering ram
2. For end game. to stop the advance of G5 threating en passant.
buffalobill I think you're only thinking about the posistional play and tactical combinations.. and overlooking the strategy.. the rook is a decoy.. like i say its been placed there to divert attention from the centre.. once all pieces go after the rook it will simply move.. and all blacks pieces will be in bad posistions.
Originally posted by CenterNutWe confuse each other. I think the Rook on h3 has a good, tactical position at this moment in time because it ties down the Black Knight. Its current position plus the White Queen and Knight moving opportunities affect what Black decides decides to do next.

I was talking about the d1 Rook. Thus the possible line of 17....O-O-O 18...Nd2 followed by ....Nxe5 and ....Rxd1.
I believe bishop are the one to take care of knights..
if you want to tie down a knight use a bishop.. ok theres no bishops left.. we're going to have to wait and see how white plays.. I would love to know the idea behide IronMan31 thinking I dunno is he allowed to look at this thread.. if so could IronMan31 please please post your comments.
