@rajk999 saidI’m not asking you personal questions; I’m asking you questions about doctrine.
Because it has nothing to do with the discussion. It is irrelevant and it is a diversion tactic used by people when they cannot stick to the issue at hand. Have you noticed that sonship constantly tells me to confess that Jesus is Lord, which I ignore. What does that have to do with the discussion. Church Christians have a problem with the truth about the teachings of Chris ...[text shortened]... lready answered. All I do is discuss doctrine and keep the discussion out of peoples personal lives.
And unless I’m mistaken, the first time I asked you if you believed Jesus Christ was the Messiah, it was relevant to the discussion. But you’ve chosen over the last few days not to answer quite a few questions that were not personal and that were relevant to the discussion.
@pb1022 saidNo no, definitely petty and jealous. (And needy). Haven't you read the OT?
Perhaps what you term as “petty and jealous” is God knowing what man becomes without Him. And what man becomes not just on earth but for eternity.
@pb1022 saidThat is the right question.
How does God hold us back as a species?
As a species, we have come on an amazing evolutionary journey, beaten all the odds to exist as we now do. (Primarily due to our ability to cooperate). And we did all this without any involvement of a deity. And now, ironically, some use this amazingly evolved brain to imagine itself a God and then put themselves in subservience to it, resist scientific advancement and knowledge. (And yes, hold us back as a species).
@ghost-of-a-duke saidWhy didn’t you quote and respond to this part of what I wrote? Seems relevant to your claim that God is petty and jealous.

<<If a man and his young child were walking through a rough and dangerous neighborhood at night and the man told the young child to stick close by him and became angry when the young child wandered away to talk to a stranger, would you view the man as petty and jealous?>>
@ghost-of-a-duke saidWho’s resisting scientific advancement and knowledge? How are Christians doing that?

If you’re referring to the theory of evolution, that’s not science. It doesn’t follow the Scientific Method and there’s very little, if any, evidence for macroevolution.
The theory of evolution is basically a religion for atheists where mother earth is a goddess, Charles Darwin is a prophet and On the Origin of Species is a bible. It’s just a way for atheists to justify their atheism.
@pb1022 saidIt was irrelevant to the petty, jealous and needy God as presented in the OT. Seriously, haven't you read the OT?

@pb1022 saidYou say you don't resist scientific advancement and then immediately proceed to rubbish evolution. (For which there is 'overwhelming' evidence).
Who’s resisting scientific advancement and knowledge? How are Christians doing that?

Seriously, don't you read anything?
@ghost-of-a-duke saidI don’t think it was irrelevant at all. God got upset when the children of Israel worshipped false gods because he knows what would happen to them without Him - on earth and eternally. And I think God had a right to expect loyalty from them after everything He had done for them.
It was irrelevant to the petty, jealous and needy God as presented in the OT. Seriously, haven't you read the OT?
If one believes (as I do) that God’s plan was for Israel to be recognized as worshipping the only true and living God, so other nations would follow suit, then Israel was obviously thwarting His plan by worshipping false gods.
@ghost-of-a-duke saidAre you claiming the theory of evolution follows the Scientific Method? And what’s this “overwhelming evidence” that evolutionists claim exists but can never cite?
You say you don't resist scientific advancement and then immediately proceed to rubbish evolution. (For which there is 'overwhelming' evidence).

So that was how Christians are “holding back” scientific advancement and knowledge? By not believing Darwin’s rubbish? It’s not science!
@pb1022 saidThe OT God was tribal God, killing people left, right and centre for petty and jealous reasons. There is some really awful stuff in the OT. Go have a read.

@ghost-of-a-duke saidI have read it. Do you know how wicked mankind was back then, with the child sacrifices, gang rapes and senseless murders?

Atheists always like to look at only one side of the equation and totally ignore how evil mankind was back then.
@pb1022 saidLook, the overwhelming evidence is there. I'm not going to condense it for you in a handy little forum post, and it isn't just Darwin.

Seriously, if you want to be taken seriously you need to find a way to assimilate evolution into your understanding of how God works and creates. Other Christians have managed this. The alternative is to cover your eyes to the blooming obvious and become irrelevant.
@pb1022 saidEvolution is an ongoing process. Don't hold as back. Step aside with your ancient myths and irrelevancies.
I have read it. Do you know how wicked mankind was back then, with the child sacrifices, gang rapes and senseless murders?

@pb1022 saidAnd why do you keep saying 'back then'? You don't think these atrocities still occur in the modern world?

@PB1022
The Greek gods were petty and cruel. They would frequently kill humans in unnecessary unpleasant ways. How is the Christian God any different? In the OT we have him sending bears to rip youth to pieces.
Seriously, haven't you read any of this stuff?
