So, sometimes truth and happiness are not necessarily at odds, and sometimes they are. How does one delve a little deeper [than this banal truism] without going into specifics?
Let me ponder that; I know you could start another thread!

If you want to talk about a specific, start your thread; why hijack one that wasn't written to go into specifics?
Your OP asks for “thoughts” on a premise you have provided. I’m giving you my thoughts on it with an example.

Perhaps you should have written your OP in such a way that is included some limitation in replies, such as:

- Nothing about religious briefs
- Nothing about Christianity
- Nothing about personal posting styles or attitudes

And now also…

- No specific examples

I don't care what you want to talk about even here; THE REASON the OP was written was not to discuss any specific truth or matter of happiness; I've said that countless times. You want to discuss them, do it; I'm not going to stop you or even say you are doing something wrong. I'm not going to participate because nothing specific was my intention here; your wanting me to change my mind is not my concern.

I think you have given wise advice for the next time I do something like this.

I think you have found your underpants to be increasingly in a knot since you wrote your op, which is blatantly obviously about you and what you believe about certain aspects of your religious beliefs, and then pretending it wasn’t.

You’re prickly now because you are uncomfortable at being a little dishonest about it.

I do think you will have learnt a couple of good lessons about intellectual honesty for sure.

Happiness feels good, but is happiness itself a feeling? It seems like it should be, but I suspect there's more to a state of happiness than just a good feeling.

Discovering a truth feels good too, so there does appear to be a connection between truth and happiness.
Been working on a few mate in 2 puzzles and came across one I couldn't solve right away. How can two little moves be so hard to find? I did eventually solve the puzzle, but only after considering some counter intuitive moves.
Truth or truisms can be like that too. Not immediately apparent, or even having the appearance of being false.

I sort of dislike that type of truth when the guy I am playing sees a win against me. 🥺

Imagine what it would be like if you never lost a game. About 35 years ago I was on a winning streak that lasted for weeks. Then for no apparent reason I completely lost interest in playing. A few years later I joined an informal group of guys who met once or twice a week to play, and won every game played for nearly 2 years.
( Two freaking years!! 😳 )
Lost some games after that, and it didn't bother me at all.

But that was half a lifetime ago.. now it bothers me when I catch myself sleep walking through games, and submitting moves like it was click bait. lol

Thanks for the specific example ~ from playing chess ~ of a "truth" that is antithetical to "happiness".

I played with a group of guys. I was probably the 3rd best of 7 of us until a 2300 player showed up; he was a microbiologist at a hospital in town. He was, without a doubt playing at a different level. He was like playing a bull constrictor. He would take whatever we gave him, but typically he just squeezed the life out of us—a solid positional player.

Earlier you said NO specific examples, and told people to go start a new thread about their specific examples, now you are spotting specific examples. Is my specific example now acceptable to this thread?

I don't want the thread to become about a specific example which it would be if we were to start exclusively talking about one or some.
