@fmf saidI would probably say that "player 4 is game over"
Priceless!
Why is torture ~ an act with an inherently immoral dimension, as you concede, inflicted constantly and for eternity on humans, using burning flames, which cause the most agonizing kind of pain possible ~ why is it the morally justified punishment for failing to have the same beliefs as you? Using the turn of phrase "just deserts" is not an answer: it's a dodge.
@ghost-of-a-duke saidGod is showing compassion and restraint right now; if not, we would be immediately paying for the wrongs we have done. On top of that, we were powerless to save ourselves and make things right between us, and He did it by making a way through Himself, taking our sins upon Himself.
I would appreciate his compassion and restraint.
Are you suggesting a Holy God stop being Holy for so we can remain sinners before Him? Are you implying that He must accept those that do evil and wickedness into His Kingdom without His grace He offers as they remain unrepentant?
It appears to me you are looking at this from the perspective of man is good and God is not, while that isn't the case. God is good, and man has a fallen sinful nature that is evil. You do not see it, but truth and righteous lives are not lived among us, we all have sinned and fallen short of God. So you must create some mythical person to cast in front of God to know if He will condemn the innocent.
We attempt to keep ourselves looking good in our own eyes, so we tend to disconnect evil deeds done by other from ourselves. This is done a lot by suggesting only a specific group of people do them, due to color, race, nationality and so on. We have taken the word "Nazi" to single out those that did evil things, attempting to paint them into something other than ordinary people. The hate being generated today for others around the globe now is being rachet up, I wonder where it is going to lead us. God is not going to allow this to continue and will repay us for the wrong done unless we repent and turn to Him.
@kellyjay saidAnswer me clearly Kelly. Why wouldn't such a God merely obliterate sinners out of existence? Why the need to torment them for all eternity?

@ghost-of-a-duke saidThis is why I dont go to church. I cannot stand being in a room full of idiots like Kellyjay, Secondson and sonship.

@fmf saidThose who reject Christ are responsible for their own choices. Your mischaracterization of the God of the Bible notwithstanding.
Do you now concede that there are Christians here in this community who believe that the Christian God torments people who reject or lack belief in Jesus in burning flames for eternity?
Heaven and hell are set before man. Eternal life for those who believe, and everlasting punishment for those who don't.
Freaks you out doesn't it?
@divegeester said"Jesus (the Lamb) will be in hell overseeing the burning alive of non Christians"
You promised that you would give this one a “serious and considered” response. But like sonship, KellyJay and philokalia you haven’t addressed my challenge in the OP. Surely this topic the topic of all topics which is worthy of a “serious and considered” response.
Your precious doctrine of death, eternal suffering, evolves from the literal interpretation of the scri ...[text shortened]... s thread trying to justify the literalism of it. You seemed to not even be aware who “the Lamb” was.
The Bible doesn't say that. You made it up. You lie.
@divegeester saidThe Bible does not say that.
The bible says the Jesus the Lamb will be in hell overseeing the eternal burning alive of people.
You lie.
@secondson said.. he [Jesus Christ] became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; (Hebrews 5:9 KJV)

Freaks you out doesn't it? Those who reject the commandments are the ones who reject Christ. Those who reject the commandments, reject Christ and have accepted Satan as their King. You are facing eternal punishment, and could be punished along with the Devil and his angels.
I distinctly remember FMF, GosD and several other people speaking highly and positively about Christ's commandments. They believed they were good teachings and they incorporated them into their lives. Compare that with Christians who refer to Christ'c commandments in a negative way and discourage the keeping of these commandments. These people who follow these teachings, and without making a big fuss about it have inadvertently accepted Christ and Christ knows them and will welcome them into His kingdom provided they are judged worthy. Professions of faith carry very little weight. Charity and brotherly love is the chief criteria for eternal life.
If you have all the faith, and have no charity, you are nothing.
Jesus and all the Apostles preached it . Read Matt 25
@secondson saidIt freaks me out that a modern human being believes everlasting punishment emanates from an supposedly omnibenevolent deity.

@secondson saidThank you. I know .. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:10 KJV)
You'd be booted out of any Christian church as a heretic.
