Hi Bill,
Chas is fine, the other name is actually Wray not Ray, but that's a whole other story not related to baseball🙂 I live in DuBois off I80, roughly 60 miles west of State College and probably the same amount south of Bradford.
I too have been following the Bucs since then, I remember being in the seventh grade and listening to that game on the ...[text shortened]... witnessed. You must remember the Gunner as well? What a character!
Nice to meet you.
Charlie
Amazing that 3 of us were in the same grade. We should form a club!
Bob Prince. When I was a kid, he was know to frequent St Clair Hospital in order to dry out! No one in the South Hills went to St Clair then, as it had a reputation as a place where people went in and did not come out. But no announcer since him and Woods has been acceptable to me. The 2 we have now are total idiots, IMO. "Greg" has a monotone voice akin to the Hal 9000 and reads stats from his monitor in lieu of knowing any baseball. "Tim" is a comedian in his own mind, and no one else's. And he knows no baseball. I turn the sound off most games.
And been to Dubois many times. Just drove my son there to look at a car 3 months ago.( He didn't get it. Nice drive though, about 2 hours) Even spent several hours in the Dubois hospital's ER 20 years ago with a junior hi wrestler when we were at the jr hi tournament in the adjacent high school one January.
, but I can handle Originally posted by DanTriolaYes, we should form a club or Pirates' fan guild😉 Prince did enjoy his libations, as to the present day announcers I would agree, but I can handle Greg, can stand Tim at all. I do enjoy Walkie and Blass though. Have you read Blass' "A Pirate For Life"? Just read it a month ago, enjoyed it very much.

I live about a 15 minute walk from the hospital and wrestled in high school...small, small world!!

Count me in as a life-long Pirate fan, also a 7th grader when Maz hit it. Born there, moved away, but visits to the grands in Johnstown got me hooked on KDKA. I used to tune them in from whatever state we lived in; after about 2 minutes of crowd noise background, I'd hear .............."Ball Two"................
Originally posted by John OsmarI have no problem with Reds fans, I think they're a lot like Buc fans, blue collar types. I loved the 70's and the battles between the Big Red Machine and the Lumber Company!! Iron City's on tap here in DuBois at Sluggers' with all the big screens tuned to the Pirate game😉
Will do, although Iron City is a little hard to find here in NC. I suppose we should toast the Reds fan who got us connected .............. Naw !!
Originally posted by ChaswrayChas, if you wrestled for Dubois, then you must have know the guy who won my weight class in '65! I wrestled 133 that year, and Dan Kohlnapp won the 133 lb State Championship. He was from Dubois.

That was a good year for Dubois wrestling, as they had 3 at States. The funny thing was that the other two guys both lost to Mt Lebanon wrestlers: Barry Souder at 127 (my ex-wife said she dated him in high school!) and Mike Gudiness at 165, who was the scariest guy I ever saw on a wrestling mat in my high school years. Mt Lebanon was our big rival. Under George Lamprinakos, the Lebo coach, they were unbeatable as a team.
Sorry, I know this is a baseball thread, but then, how often does anyone mention HS wrestling on here? And that is my passion, even now.
Originally posted by DanTriolaI went to high school in Brockway, a small town about 10 miles NW of DuBois, in Jefferson County. I'm pretty sure you mean Danny Kohlhepp, not Kohlnapp. In '65, I think DuBois had 4 wrestlers go to States with Danny coming home as state champ. In those days DuBois had a teen dance every Sat night at the Elks club and it was the place to be. Wrestlers from Brockway had a "nodding" relationship with wrestlers from DuBois.....we weren't that good🙂 Some matches we would forfeit 3 weight classes we were such a small school!!

It's a "dog bites man" story I know, but they won again last night. Solid pitching by Bronson Arroyo and a couple of long balls. Perhaps to Pirate fans school kids groping each other is more interesting .........................................

lol...well back on track...Pirates win again last night to remain only a half game back of the "soon to be champions". Bucs score 4 runs in the fourth inning without a hit and the first eight men went to the plate without recording an official at bat.
Originally posted by ChaswrayJust a tad... The Fish just don't seem like they're trying, even with the talent. Kudos to the bucs for a great season so far.
Marlins pitchers in that inning were "just a bit wild" 😉
Poor Anibal, our best pitcher lately anyways, never gets run support.
Like I said earlier, if the Fish can score more than 4, watch out! 🙁
Pirates are a good team. The Central is quite exciting... so far.
Sanchez looked so good yesterday that now people on the forums are saying the Pirates should get him!
But I had a laugh watching Zambrano respond to setbacks on Saturday in his "new" way: smile! But I knew inside he was aching to hit something. That guy will never control his emotions. Still, he did create an unusual inning with his quiet blowup: 4 runs, no hits, and not a recorded out until the 8th batter.

Alas, Sanchez was traded away along with Infante to Detroit for pitching prospects 😞
