@shavixmir saidThe issue isn't whether if you were in charge you'd allow drug users to participate. The Olympics wants to limit its connection with both performance and nonperformance enhancing drugs and it wishes to enforce it is certainly justified in enforcing its clearly stated rule.
Personally, I don’t see why drug users should be banned from competing.
What should be done is: if you get caught using drugs, 30 minutes before the next sporting event you get given a heroic dose of LSD and you have to compete naked.
The Tour de France and the high-jump would be hilarious!
@quackquack saidWell, you're consistent in your position to deny POC opportunities they have earned.
Your mindless explanation is laughable. Universities can favor minorities of the majority despite any reason interpretation of equal rights or evaluation of credentials because you like the results. The Olympics should be condemned for enforcing race neutral anti drug rules because you don't like the result. Thankfully you don't get to decide everything and the Olympics can take place with one less drug user.
The rule is stupid and has no rational relation to an athletic competition. That should suffice for it to be repealed by organizations running said competitions, not dictating what is and isn't proper moral behavior.
@no1marauder saidWhite people don’t use dope???

Why the hell is smoking cannibis a racial thing to you?
Sorry. It’s just not.

@no1marauder saidThat’s a whole other point: what drugs should be banned and to what extent should organisations be opposed to recreational drugs.

However… it’s got nothing to do with race.
And cannibis can relieve pain and stress, making it possible to be considered performance enhancing.
@shavixmir saidExcept, if you had bothered to read the links I provided, including AOC's letter, you'd know the organization's own experts have concluded it is not "performance enhancing". From p. 1 of this thread:
That’s a whole other point: what drugs should be banned and to what extent should organisations be opposed to recreational drugs.
However… it’s got nothing to do with race.
And cannibis can relieve pain and stress, making it possible to be considered performance enhancing.
" However, according to WADA’s own medical director, Alan Vernec, “[t]here is no evidence for cannabis use as a performance-enhancing drug.”6 WADA appeared to acknowledge this scientific reality last year when it reduced the penalty for cannabis and categorized it not as a performance-enhancing drug, but as a drug that is banned solely because it is a substance that is “frequently abused in society outside the context of sport.”"
So this has nothing to do with competition and everything to do with shallow moralizing based on outdated stereotypes, the same ones which led to marijuana laws in the first place.
@shavixmir saidStart reading QQ's posts, for Christ sakes. He keeps tying this to his fervent opposition to affirmative action in higher education, so bitch at him.

The post that was quoted here has been removedAn interesting paragraph:
"'"Most governments in the world have been very reluctant to take marijuana off the prohibited list for public health reasons,” the USADA letter read. “It is worth noting that when marijuana was included in the first prohibited list in 2004, one of the strongest advocates for inclusion of marijuana on the prohibited list was the U.S. government.”
This is perfectly consistent with what the cited Brookings article stated. And what AOC said in the letter:
" "We are also concerned that the continued prohibition of marijuana while your organizations allow recreational use of alcohol and other drugs reflects anti-drug laws and policies that have historically targeted Black and Brown communities while largely condoning drug use in white communities. Anti-marijuana laws have a particularly ugly history of systemic racism."
@kevin-eleven saidSo what? It remains stupid and pointless and based on antiquated stereotypes.
Don't do the crime if you can't do the time
And keep your eye on the sparrow
The IOC has the right to establish and enforce the rules for their events.
The rule was already in effect at the time of the violation, not a surprise new rule that was retroactively enforced.
It should be repealed rather than allowed to seriously damage someone's life.
@no1marauder saidToo bad it wasn't repealed before the current cycle.
