"Whenever, I say, “Blessed are the poor,” there’s an almost knee-jerk reaction in certain churches to add the words, “…in spirit,” in a defiant whisper. And in doing so, we marginalize those who live in poverty all over again.

We reduce the good news of God’s Kingdom on earth to something that is only emotional and anaemically spiritual, instead of world-changing. We ignore the economic component of discipleship."

Craig Greenfield (Author of the Urban Halo).
That does not apply to me at all. I stated clearly the benefits of being poor and Jesus did in fact state that the poor [materially], will be a better shape on judgment day. Let me know if you want the verse. In the verse you quoted it refers specifically to spiritually poor. The rich have a harder time pleasing God because of the distractions of materialistic lifestyles.

In this thread Yoitsme is condemning the rich for not giving away their wealth, which is unscriptural. In fact the problem in those societies is that people have no clue what poverty is. Maybe some people should be transported to another country, to live in truly poor conditions so that they will appreciate what they have. There are no real poor people in the UK. I have been there many times and those who complain of poverty, live better than many people around me here. They have shelter, enough food, and clothes, most of which is provided by the state who get their money from the rich. The bible says if you have that be content.

What a lame response. Personally, I never enter a discussion just to tell a poster he is wrong. If I choose to enter, I will state he is wrong, then proceed to give my opinion on why I think he is wrong. People like you lack the ability to discuss issues properly and focus instead on personalities.
You said Jesus "blessed the poor in spirit" to counter Ghost's point, as if Jesus didn't say bless the actual poor:

Luke 6:20-21 (NIV)
“Looking at his disciples, he said: ‘Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God."

If you're not aware of something the whole world knows about *your own* religion, it's not worth getting into a detailed economics discussion about the rich's role in poverty with someone so amusingly uniformed.

A good example of 'amusingly uninformed', would be people [like you] who think that single family homes are so common among blacks because of white supremacy. These people are so deluded that that they are not able to place blame at the feet of black men who impregnate several women and proceed to leave them to raise kids on their own. A woman having 4 children with 4 fathers is commonplace among your black community. It will continue because you insist on blaming, not yourselves, but some other outside force. Yoitsme is doing the very same thing with poverty in her circle. Its always nice for the weak to blame the world. The strong blame themselves, fix the problem and move on.

Bruh, atheists are teaching you about your own religion. STFU.

If you're this ignorant about a religion you claim to follow there's little reason to think it's worthwhile discussing historical context of racism in America with you.

Here it is .. another fool who blames racism for their poverty and single parent homes. The problem is that you people dont know how to keep your dick in your pants, instead of going around making children which are abandoned. The bible says your type are worse than infidels.

Do Jews have a history of stealing land?
Do Christians have a history of child abuse?

Yawn.

https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2019/12/12/u-s-children-more-likely-than-children-in-other-countries-to-live-with-just-one-parent/

Almost a quarter of U.S. children under the age of 18 live with one parent and no other adults (23% ) The study, which analyzed how people’s living arrangements differ by religion, also found that U.S. children from Christian and religiously unaffiliated families are about equally likely to live in this type of arrangement.

When will you Christians learn to keep your dick in your pants?

Why blacks cant keep their dick in their pants have nothing to do with Christianity. In fact you will find that there is less single parent homes among the church-going black Americans, than those like you who are atheists.

Like poverty rates, the prevalence of single motherhood among children also varies across ethno-racial lines, and these trends have been fairly stable (see Figure 4). From 1995 to 2018, single mother prevalence remained highest among Black children, followed by Latino children, and then by White children.

You Christians are no better. That's the point.

Like I said: getting into a discussing about how systemic racism affects a population with someone like you is fruitless.

You spit on your own god's words about love and praying for enemies into order to hate Palestinians. I doubt you'll let facts and history stop you from hating blacks.

Thats lame. You are afraid to continue this discussion because you have no facts, only excuses.

My mother has just lost her winter fuel allowance because of political spite tactics from a Labour government who previously attacked the Tories for considering doing it.

The hypocrisy is thick.

You called Palestinians "animals" before lumping them in with Hamas and saying "Palestinians and their supporters should go to hell". That's not "disagreement". That's hate.

There's no point debating with someone like you except as proof that right-wingers are worthless trash.

I guess I'll repeat it.
It's means tested now. And I agree with that approach. That your mum can afford to heat her home is a good thing, be glad.
