They will remain suspects until they have been through a fair an open court process.
If the US could prove they are illegal combatants I think the US would have done by now.

This battle field you refer to is Afghanistan. The worlds poorest country, which was crushed by the worlds richest country because 19 terrorists (most of whom were not Afghani) committed a dreadful act of terrorism.
America has subsequently ruined the lives of many thousands of innocent people in the region. I'm sure this "battlefield" was just ordinary people protecting their way of life. Maybe some men they questioned Americas right to be there and have landed themselves 4 years in camp x-ray.
America is a land of opportunity. It is not the only attractive option for economic migration. You obviously believe the current administration is enhancing America, I take a different view.
But as I've said before either geo-politically America is either very bad at PR or America wants to be viewed as a pre-emptive agressor so the rest of the world quiver.

There are no ordinary people protecting their way of life in the places these combatants were captured. You should stop making things up and actually do some research, instead of believing everything you hear; like anti american propaganda spit out by the bbc. You should be glad we are standing up to this jihad of world wide terror. This is WWIII, and when they show up at your door step and behead your family I think your point of view will change.

I was in favour of the destruction of the terror camps. I was in favour of the removal of the taliban.
I'm not in favour of keeping prisoners, on an island far from home, without trial.
Not only because I believe this inhumane but because I believe it will inspire more jihadists to fight the west.
If your blood thirsty enough to want world war three then illegally starting wars in a part of the world you have no right to be is a good way of going about it.
While I agree there are a small number of extremist muslims who want to end our way of life. I firmly believe that number will remain small if the West acts responsibly in Iraq, Palestine and the way it treats its enemy prisoners.

I still maintain that alot of innocent Afghans got killed, injured and arrested in the force of the US overthrow. However I will concede that to do a job properly this might have to happen.
Not every Afghan was a baddie. Not everyone held in Guantanamo Bay is/was a danger to the US security. The people who are being held deserve a fair trial. After four years there many of these men are being denied their basic human right to a fair trial.
Originally posted by invigorateOk, sorry if I was a little rude to you.....we understand each other then. The only thing I don't understand is what type of trial do you want for these terrorists (not soldiers) that were captured on the battlefield firing at and trying to kill Americans in the defense of the Taliban. I don't want my hard-earned tax dollars paying lawyers to set these creeps free to kill another day. Besides, Guantanamo Bay has such nice weather (about like Phoenix, AZ in July with some humidity), some of the best snorkeling/diving, and the Navy elisted club serves the coldest beer in the Weat Indies...and Tuesday night is ladie's night....burkhas optional....what more could a taliban warrior ask for?

Well, I think if I really gave it some thought, America wouldn't be in my top ten either. Here's my top ten, so particular order:
1. Australia (I hear your women are hot and you Aussie lads don't know how to treat them, so they flock to foreigners and Americans in particular.)
2. Belize (Hot women, lots of bikinis, nude beaches)
3. St. T ...[text shortened]... lots of bikinis, nude beaches)
