What causes terrorism?
In fact, take a further step back… what causes militantism? Or extremism?
Which systemic flaws in a society cause a group of people to feel attracted to such polarised viewpoints?
What sort of singular occurance could manage something similar? (A wee hint here… 99% of the cases are due to systemic causes).
Once you’ve worked the basics out (or read up on it), you’ll realise the Action - Reaction cyclus is actually an escalating cyclus over an X-amount of time; wherein the parties slip ever more into polarised extremism.
Once you comprehend this, you’ll realise that Hamas (and to a great extent Israel, itself) are symptoms. And extinguishing either does not solve the problem, because the systemic causes are still there.
And the basics of human rights and international law are the backlash you (and Israel) are feeling at the moment. And that backlash will only keep growing, the harder the innocent Palestinians are punished for the behaviour of Hamas.

Stringing up the ones who committed the Oct 7th atrocity, lets say 50 people, will do nothing to solve the problem. Next three months there will be another attack. Netanyahu is taking down the Hamas infrastructure. They are dying, tunnels and being destroyed, or flooded. Yes there is high incidence of collateral damage because Hamas with the full knowledge, consent and permission of civilians, have their rocket launching sites, their HQs, their artillery storage, in the hospitals, schools, and residential areas. Civilians know and understand the risk. These are not innocent civilians in the normal sense of the word. They are part and parcel of the threat to peace.
Actually they do not want peace. They want all the Jews removed from Israel, and they have pledged their lives to achieve that goal. Many more are going to die. I still feel more pity for the 25,000 who died of starvation yesterday.

What is unreasonable is for people to expect Israel to say ... Ok, lets go in and grab those who committed this atrocity and bring them to justice.. Thats ridiculous. They know after this round is over there will be another group of terrrorists to deal with. At least the way Gaza and Hamas are being destroyed that will take them a couple years.

There is no institution that can make rules for fighting people such as Hamas and their population that supports this kind of warfare. Gaza residents were dancing in the streets on Oct 7th when they heard the news of Hamas attack. They knew the consequences of that action and they still rejoiced.

By the way, the real support is who is providing the money, This public support to which you refer, is like wind, nobody cares. Israel has allies and they aint going away because the allies know the kind of criminals Israel is dealing with. The support the Palestinians had, is going to dwindle. Countries who previously supported them is already starting to pull out donations to education, social services, infrastructure becasee Hamas is wasting the money.
