Quick clue about the advice you're being given here:
Those who haven't been in the military are the ones saying it's a bad idea, those who have are saying it's a good one. Pay no mind to the woosies. People who have never been in the service have no business giving you advice because they don't know what they're talking about.

I didn’t know what I was getting into when I enlisted or I’d have joined the Coast Guard and spent my time at the USCG station located at Butt Crack, Ohio keeping a lookout for drunken boaters on Lake Erie. Is the poster asking about the Brazilian army or the British army? From what I saw of the Brits they were not anybody to mess with. Life in the Brazilian army may be less hazardous.

..very few of the posters here have been in the service...i have...i served three years in the army ( 1965 - 1968 )...i left as an e-5 ( halfway up the nco grades )..when i entered i was 18, i was about 98 lbs...it was not easy but in 19 months i made it to e-5 ( why ? )..because i understood why i was
there...to live up to a standard and exceed it....this ...[text shortened]... e but the navy office was closed the day i enlisted and the army office was open...go army !...

Actually a brazilian in Wales, but never mind...
i met some people who basically said "the british army=certain death"
but it cant be that awful right?
