Black needs to match White's forces in the centre or he's going to be swallowed up. We need to get a Rock out. NOW!
So I suggest a Rock slide to d5.
19. ... Kc7 is not too shabby either but maybe a bit defensive and you're likely to see White start pushing his centre pawns to isolate the Black pieces from the King. Either that or White switches his Queen and Rook to attack Black's Queen-side. It's a standard weakness when castling Queen-side which is one of the reasons why I prefer the Rook move.
The h5 pawn continues to tempt, but it's quick poison. I can't see any Black Queen move that achieves anything positive, neither does Kb8.
Has anyone got a better alternative?
Originally posted by buffalobillWhite prepares to lift his rook up. After Kb8 it is g4, Rh1 or Rh4, and Rh1 prepares a future Rh3, without leaving the solid position. After Rd5 follows Kb1(c4 weakens the position) [20...Ra5 21 c4 is crushing.] 20...Rfd8 21.c4 21...R5d6! We can't leave the defensive [Ra5 a3!(c5 Rd5! A nice outpost)
What are you smoking 8-) And why 20. Rh1 ... ? White doesn't need to worry about that pawn.
And then, what are you trying to achieve with Qc7? I can't see that it improves your position, just weakens it.
22.Qa3(There is that one) Kb8(The Queen is a bit discomfortable in e7) Actually, either Qc7, Rd5 and Qd6 leave a good position.
Originally posted by BowmannI don't think Rd5 is a good move! he can simply take his pawn to c4! trapping the rook! Kb8 is a good move! that knight of ours will have a perfect position if we take him to d5! but the pawn on f7 will be taken! that knight of his at the moment is causing too much trouble! we have to get rid of it as soon as possible! i prefer Kb8 now to protect that pawn on a7! its the best move i guess!

Originally posted by kattyWell, if we need to protect that pawn, Kb8 is a candidate move. The downside I see to it is that when we defend right now, he won't make the move Qa3, he'll give up of the plan and we lose a tempo. I think in f8 our rook is underemployed, in d8 too and in e7 our queen is underemployed.

As for the knight, we need him on f6 to hold on a little until we improve our position. If he captures on f7, we are a bit lost.

I believe that Rd5 is a good choice. I have come up with a variation though but I can't seem to get very far with it. I was thinking Nd7.
I know it looks like suicide at first but just take a look at it for a minute or two.

That's as far as I can get but I know that the knight can't move for the moment. I am not sure if it is good or bad but just look at it and see if you can come up with anything.
Originally posted by SamdoggI'm looking at it and while I initially discounted it, it's not the worst move either. We go down a pawn but with chances to pick up one back and also simplify. Looks drawish but then I'm tired {hic} ...

Originally posted by SamdoggI think the knight has to stay put for now. Giving a pawn away at this stage of the game is suicide. I suggest first moving the rook to d5, hopefully doubling along the d file, or maybe moving the the rook to a5 where it is more active.

I think c4 wouldn't be so bad for Black, it just loosens Whites king position a bit.
Kb8 may be a bit too passive which allows White to reorganise his pieces more effectively. The move Ra5 may make White slightly uncomfortable. And there's a possibility that White may not play c4 anyway if a rook landed on d5.
