13.Nxd4 is forced. Not much advantage anymore for white, if any.

You're right that seems like a mistake by white.

We're back to my original line.

...Nxd4
Qc3 c5
dxc Bf5

Black may win this thing yet.

I missed a couple moves here (my wife just finished her nursing degree and my weekend has been filled with graduation ceremonies and parties!!!). Enough of that, on to somehting important. I have read through all the previous posts and I think that Qc3 is definitely the best move in this position. Probably will be met with c5 and follow Red Night's line, but who knows the way that this game has gone!

I agree, I think Qc3 is the best move now. Qd3 would be a disaster.

In my opinion both sides have played less than best moves on two separate, notable, occassions.

Black should have played Na5 on move 7 and white should have played Qc3 on the last move.

I don't like Qc3 now. The queen stands in the way of the undeveloped knight. White might decide to go for a queen exchange, making the loss of castling rights much less important. There are several ways (Qe3 followed by Qe5; Bb4 perhaps; Qb4; Qg3; Qa3). I go for 14.Qg3 because it is more consistent with the reasoning of threatening g7 (although the whiteplayer in the game didn't show much of this).

Qg3 O-O

Looks pretty strong for black.

Qe3 looks good at first, maybe better than Qc3.

I thought there was something wrong with Qe3 from the previous analysis.

Qe3 Nf4
and now if Qe5 Qxe5
Rxe5 O-O

I still like Qc3. Although, I still think white might play Qd3?? and lose.

I would play 14.Qb4. Black doesn't seem to have anything better than 14..Kf8, then 15.Qxd6 Bxd6 16.Bc3 c5 17.Nd2 with a nice position.

If White plays carefully, he should be at least equal.

What about ...Qf6.

if Bc3 Kf8
Bxd5 Bxb4
Bxf6 Bxe1
Bxg7 Kxg7
Kxe1 Re8+

Black is up the exchange for a pawn.

No: 14.Qb4 Qf6? 15.Bc3 Kf8 but then white plays 16.Qxe7+ QxQ 17.Rxe7 KxR 18.BxN and has two pieces for the rook, which should win.

David's line is good though. I would say the game is roughly equal after that. BUt so is it after 14.Qg3 too QxQ 15.hxQ Kf8 ....

You're right Kf8 doesn't work.

How about Bg4+

f3 Nxf3
Bxf6 Nxe1 +
Kxe1 Bxb4+

if instead of Bxf6
gxf3 Qxf3+
Be2 Qxd5+

if instead of gxf3
Qxe7+ QxQ
RxQ+ KxR
gxf3 Bxf3+

Black now has two pawns and a rook for his two minor pieces.

I looked at some other variations and two pieces for a rook and two pawns was the best I saw.

Qg3 O-O! Looks good to me.

Whoops! Kc1 seems to crush Bg4+ pretty well!

Never argue with Mr. Tebbs!
