Maybe not in real life, but on these boards you come across as a sanctimonious know-it-all with an axe to grind against anyone that expresses faith in Jesus Christ.
Originally posted by @secondsonReferring to "god figures" is neutral because different people have different ones. If I am in a context where there are people of different faiths in real life I am careful to use the term "god figure" so as to be neutral and to recognize that their notions of god or gods are not all the same. Frankly, it's a bit silly for you to view such neutrality from a non-believer as being "as insulting as it gets". Gosh. I hope it's manufactured outrage on your part. "As insulting as it gets"? Blimey.
You may not think so, but when you say things like "your god figure" you're being as insulting as it gets against the Christian faith. I wager you wouldn't say that to a Hindu or a Muslim to their face in real life.

You say you're an non-believer, but I really don't think you know what you are other than a species that walks on two legs.

Are you now trying to insult my intelligence? You think anyone that actually believes in a creator God is a fool. Inside you hate the idea of having been created by an omniscient God because then you'd know you'd be accountable to Him.
Why don't you just be honest and admit that FMF sits on his own throne and is accountable to no one but himself.
And I bet you never referred to Allah as a "god figure" when talking to a Muslim to his face.

Originally posted by @secondsonWhen grown up people with non-Muslim beliefs and/or no religious beliefs were present? Yes, I absolutely have. I have no idea how your conversations with Muslims and Hindus have gone: do you act all indignant and angry with them?
And I bet you never referred to Allah as a "god figure" when talking to a Muslim to his face.
Look, you can struggle with my non-belief and my neutrality when it comes to competing religions and competing god figures all you want, it means little to me and it won't affect me posting here as a non-believer.
Originally posted by @secondsonNot so, I often capitalize the word God when I am posting here, especially when I am typing rapidly. It probably runs at about 50-50. Old habits die hard. At other times, I refer to the supernatural beings that are the objects/subjects of religionists' beliefs as god figures or gods.
I noticed you capitalized the word God in another post when talking about the Muslims, but you use a lower case g when referring to the God of the Bible.

You really think this is why people become Christians? To assist them in being good?

Gotta love the wisest man who ever lived and the shepherd boy who slew Goliath and became a king (not to mention a heck of a Psalm writer.)

People have different notions of a “supernatural creator being” here? I’ve only been here three months, but it seems like there’s basically Christians and atheists among regular posters here or even irregular posters.
I was going to start a thread on whether regular posters (and irregular posters) think I should retire (no longer write about) “tiger,” the adorable third-grade scamp at Shetland Primary who likes to drink ale, go snorkeling in vats of ale, eat PB&J sandwiches with the crusts cut off and write love notes to Miss Alawat, his third-grade teacher.
But since “tiger” really isn’t a spiritual subject (though tiger identifies as a Christian,) I decided against creating a separate thread and just request within this thread that anyone who cares one way or the other makes his/her opinion known.
I’ll abide by however a vote turns out, even if only one person states a preference. If no one states a preference, I’ll assume my writing about tiger’s antics is not “played” and is still appreciated, if not anxiously awaited.
Those who may be embarrassed to publicly admit how much they love tiger and want to continue reading about him and his antics can send me their vote via a pm. PMs will be held in the strictest of confidence.
Thank you for reading, and may God bless America.
