Maybe a yellow. There were lots of mistakes including other cards. The ref wasn't good.

Germany was clearly the better team, but they always start strong. 4-0 was a bit low though.

The ref was brilliant, but I'm not sure about the red card. Only he knows for sure as he might have seen some intent by Cahill that we couldn't see on the replays. It looked like a yellow, but there's no way to be sure from the replays we had.

just for that mistake alone (and it was a mistake) you have to say the ref was pretty poor... not saying aus would've came back but at 2-0 you never know. plus now aus go into their most important match without their best player. huge mistake by the ref, to be fair the only one so far in the tourney... (although i haven't seen either of the two sendings off from todays other two matches yet... or the pen. anyone?)

The pen was a clear pen. I haven't seen the other sendings-off.

The other send offs were alright. Stupid players but good refs.

Cahill's tackle looked like red to me. Wouldn't be shocked with a yellow, but a tackle from behind catching the foot like it did... well... it's a red.

That's my beef with refereeing. No consistency. Ticky tacky fouls result in yellows, blatant killer tackles don't get carded, offsides enforcement spotty as in Germany's first goal and players who should be sent off don't get sent off. Refs seem to spot offsides when it's a hair's breadth offsides. If a player is offsides by 3-4 meters they don't see it?

Refereeing has been pretty good. The first goal wasn't offside because the player in the offside position wasn't actively involved.

Neither were most of the other offsides players on other calls. I respectfully disagree. There were two players offsides on that first Germany goal. Would not have made a difference in outcome, however.

it looked like he tried to back out of it, almost looked more like a slip than a bad tackle. it wasn't a red, maybe a yellow for being clumsy but nothing more imo. there will be worse tackles in the world cup that don't get a red.

As I predicted the Aussies would get a result.......in this case a losing one.

That's too bad. Aussies might have made a game of it had they scored on that first opportunity. They did play their hearts out!

I do believe there is still hope of making it out of the group stage even without Cahill...

Today you're in for a treat... If you like boring defensive football. Denmark will play a defensive 4-6-0 against Holland and thereby only lose by a few goals. Yesterday the Danish coach, Morten Olsen, answered that a good result would be a draw. Even in his dreams he doesn't think Denmark can win.

Oh yes, we have high hopes in Denmark. 😞

I don't think Denmark are that defensive really. They'll probably play on the counter. They are very quick and could pose a thread on the counter. If we can't score in the few first opportunities we may be in for a difficult game. Of course I expect them to win by at least 2 goals.
