@soothfast saidI gave up a few years of my life during Vietnam for the "old GI Bill," it was part of
Yep, the "old GI Bill." Nice for you, eh? How much you reckon that saved you in today's dollars?
The original GI bill, which ran from 1944 to 1956, disbursed $14.5 billion [1] to 7.8 million veterans [2]. That's about $1860 per veteran in 1944 - 1956 dollars, which is over $10,000 in 2022 dollars. the service package, not a gift or handout after the fact. It allowed me to go to
school and saved me money, but it didn't cover all the expenses. I still had to take
out loans that were paid back while going to school and working two part-time
jobs. So one guy in the office wants to give away taxpayer money, not Congress,
whose job is to deal with the government purse.
@kellyjay saidLibs, who could not shoulder a rifle if you shouldered it for them, do not realize what soldiers do (lose limbs, PTS, etc) to earn the right to a college education.

'Nuff said.

@wildgrass saidBut you justify a 'government expenditure' of paying college loans. Bleeding money, you are finally right about something.
Yessss. I love it. Let's do this "how long can you make it without xxx?" game to justify all government expenditures. Let's do it until our eyes bleed TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN DEFICIT SPENDING TO JUSTIFY IT!!!
AGGGGH! The farmers hired an army of lobbyists to get their handouts.
Republicans are supposed to be conservatives. What the what happened? $7.9 Trillion in deficit spending and you still like the guy? Are you kidding?
And also it is nice to see that you recognize a handout when you see one. Actually, in your case, when you Get one.

@soothfast saidAnd you pitiful mealy mouth will not answer the simple question. Why, you are a scaredy cat. You sure do like to get personal in posts. Have you ever started an issue and stayed on it, or are a lonely person who wants to strike up some feeeeeeelings?
The meat of my response to you, the actual counterpoints to your sophistry, does not in any way hinge on my anecdote about a plumber I know. If you read past my first paragraph you might have perceived that, but then again, you aren't here to listen or learn, you're here to rant your addled head off about whatever BS bubbles to the top of that ever-churning maelstrom of right-wing crap that is the baling wire and bubblegum of your broken soul.

@kmax87 saidWharton has opined that the Tuition nightmare will cost $1 Trillion. Yeah, they are a trillion dollars wrong, then, if you and Marauder say it wont cost anything.
You may be right. Most of Wharton’s greatest economic theorists were Keynesian, and they would definitely reject the simplistic economically rationalist drivel promulgated by one of their most famous alumni, one Donald J Trump.
How could they be off that much?
@wildgrass said“The Trump welfare payments to farmers protected the farmers, not the food supply.”
I can't get over this comment, good lord.
The Trump welfare payments to farmers protected the farmers, not the food supply. The farmers wanted to ship their soybean crops overseas to China and elswehere because the profit margins were better (who can blame them for that?) but they were prevented from doing so because of tariffs and COVID shipping disruptions. Instead of ...[text shortened]... vote for him unless he gave them $60 billion.
When's the last time you ate a soybean? Seriously.
LOL…think about that comment for a bit

@mott-the-hoople saidI thought about it when I wrote it. Then you took it out of context and reposted it.

50% of soybeans are exported. Again, repost, there's nothing wrong with farmers profiting by exporting their produce. There is something wrong when the profit comes from uncle Sam.

@wildgrass saidI wonder why over 500 congressmen could not have seen that like you do. Idiots all.

@averagejoe1 saidIowa.

Look man. There is a lot of data supporting the premise that modern farming is a grift, not an industry. Socialized industry if you will. You could look it up if you wanted to know but I suspect you probably don't really care.
If the conservative party in America were truly conservative then when we put them in power the spending would go down. Or at least stop going up. Instead it accelerates. Every single time.
Why?
01 Sep 22
@wildgrass saidBecause Republicans and Democrats are two sides of the same coin.

@kellyjay saidSure. Both parties love spending your money.
Because Republicans and Democrats are two sides of the same coin.
But, liberal voters are getting what they voted for with that. It's the conservative voters who are constantly duped by the Republican promise of small government that never materializes.
Remember the tea party? Yeah, they just stopped talking about spending altogether. It's all cultural war issues now. No substance.
I don't like student loan forgiveness, but I hate it less than whatever it is Republicans are spending your money on.
@wildgrass saidThere is much dupping going on from the left and right; if you think otherwise,

@kellyjay saidMaybe they once were but now one is a culture warrior infested authoritarian and misogynistic potential junta and the other one is the Democrat party.
Because Republicans and Democrats are two sides of the same coin.
Pretending that the US political landscape hasn’t changed since the Tea Party raised its flag is naive at best.

@kevcvs57 saidMuch duping the angst being created to smear large segments of the country is scary! The hate being created is causing violence.
