In Acts 2, Peter, talking about Jesus, says that He (Jesus) was to receive David’s throne and is presently sitting at the right hand of God. Acts 2:29-35 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; …. For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Until I make thy foes thy footstool. CHRIST WOULD RULE IN THE FLESH!
In Heb 2:8, Paul tells us that even though Christ has “all power in heaven and in earth”, he has not yet subdued all things unto himself. Hebrews 2:8 Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him.
In Acts 3 & Acts 15, Peter states that Christ will remain by the right hand of God until the times of restitution of all things.
When does Christ sit on his throne? In Matt 25, Jesus said that he would sit upon his throne when he returns during his second advent. They tried to make Christ a king on his first advent, but he refused. His second advent will be a different story. He returns not as a babe in a manger but as the “roaring lion from the tribe of Judah”. Matthew 25:31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory
In Matt 19:28 Christ said his return would be a time of regeneration (making all things new again). This is what Peter called the “times of restitutions of all things” in Acts 3. Christ said that, at this time, the twelve apostles would sit on their thrones also, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. Matthew 19:28 And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Where is Christ’s throne? In Jeremiah 3:17, Christ said that when he returned, Jerusalem would be called the throne of the Lord. Jeremiah 3:17 At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the Lord; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the Lord, to Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart. Ezekiel 43:7 says that Christ will physically rule from Jerusalem, “the place of the soles of my feet” Ezekiel 43:7 And he said unto me, Son of man, the place of my throne, and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel for ever, and my holy name, shall the house of Israel no more defile, neither they, nor their kings, by their whoredom, nor by the carcasses of their kings in their high places.
Micah 4:1-3 prophesied that the Lord would rule and teach all nations from Jerusalem.
Christ is the Lord that will rule and teach in the flesh from His inherited throne of David in Jerusalem (Zion). He is the risen Lord.
