@sonship saidIs this, then, what your religious beliefs lead you to believe? Wether the "little old lady" Ghost of a Duke describes would be spared eternal torment in burning flames would depend on "what was deep in the spirit of [her] innermost heart about Christ"?
But I don't know that her name is not in the book of life. I don't think this problem is addressed by us imagining that it is so easy to not be recorded in the book of life. How do you know what was deep in the spirit of the innermost heart of a person about Christ?
@philokalia saidNo references. Thanks. Credibility in doctrine relies on bible references. Not your opinion.
We have references to hell being eternal, and to heaven being eternal, and these are both in the Bible, correct?
How would it be, then, that the soul would not be immortal? For it goes to a place to exist there eternally.
@kellyjay saidWhat would the moral purpose of torturing her for eternity in burning flames for not being "perfect in all respects to every normal inclination from the moment she was born until she became a little old lady"? What would be the moral purpose of STILL torturing her - for not being perfect while she was alive - in, say, 20,000,000 years from now?
This mythical lady ever lie, cheat, steal, gossip, hate anyone, harbor hateful or desires in her heart, I assume she didn't indulge into any of the more gross sins, was she perfect in all respects to every normal inclination all other people have from the moment she was born until she became a little old lady?
@fmf saidShe did not have a personal relationship with Christ. Christ loves personal relationships. Once you have it, you can disobey all the commandments and Jesus still welcomes you into the Kingdom of God.

@rajk999 saidHonestly, you have stumbled onto an amazing topic. I am doing some reading on it and hope to be able to cover it in-depth sometime.

Perhaps the soul is not inherently immortal, but it is certainly something that is resurrected by God and faces judgment [1], thus lending to it the status of immortality. It may be immortal by default.
A lot more is required.
Great, great topic! Maybe something can be done on it in the future.

Show me the references where heaven is eternal
Show me a reference where the soul goes somewhere to exist eternally.
Your doctrine is garbage pal. Go question your church fathers .
They have fooled you.
@fmf saidYou know what, this must be the question. Am I right?

Is this what you want me to answer?
@philokalia saidThere might be more. Take a shot at this one though. I cant wait.

@philokalia saidThe soul living on after the death of the physical body does not make it immortal.

You will be surprised, that most of your church doctrine is not in the bible and almost all of it is not supported by Christ.
I think you have your work and your research cut out for you.
@rajk999 saidYou realize you are the only one who spews out such nonsense? No one suggests we can disobey the commandments of God outside of your false witness.

@kellyjay saidMaybe, one day, you will start a thread about the obligation that followers of Jesus have to obey his commandments, and their obligation to do good works in order to demonstrate that their faith is not dead. It's been 15 years, after all.
You realize you are the only one who spews out such nonsense?
@fmf saidNever happen. He will be dis-fellowshiped from his church .. lol

@rajk999 saidYou could spend your life studying the basic concepts within the Bible and never really finish. And sure, I am a fool, I do not know enough about it.

However, the Church's teachings are the accurate teachings -- I've never found their teachings to be off about it at all. Feel free to challenge the teachings. I have faith that, in good time, you will come into an orthodox understanding of Christianity if you study it with the desire to know the actual content and to not work back from the conclusion that all of your atheist friends who are do-gooders will invariably inherit the Kingdom of God due to works-based salvation.
@philokalia saidWrong, on many counts.

1. Being a fool has nothing to do with lack of knowledge [biblically]. A fool is one who disobeys the commandments of Christ
2. The church cannot possibly have acurate teachings when you failed to show where your immortal soul doctrine was supported in the bible. Neither where you go the idea that hell was eternal, or heaven was eternal or that the soul goes somewhere for eternity. You are a crazy person if you fail so badly yet still support your church.
3. Accurate teachings come from Jesus Christ.
4. You need to accept the teachings of Christ. You do not need to study any orthodox nonsense from church fathers.
@rajk999 saidAnother false witness, you know I've told you we are called to pick up our crosses and follow Christ which is lay down our lives for God and others. I've told you we are to love God and each other and that is meeting others needs, not out of obligation which is what you preach, but for the concern that others have needs and we can meet them.
Never happen. He will be dis-fellowshiped from his church .. lol
Loving God and each other are the top two commandments, and you void these by making the works all about earning your spot with God.
